Vantage Point Spoiler Movie Review

2.5Stars-1

This movie is a wonderful example of a mediocre movie. The plot consists of an organized terrorist attack on the president of the United States of America in Spain. In order to tell this story, the movie goes from perspective to perspective of several individuals involved in the event. Perspectives range from bystander civilians to secret service members, assassins, the president, and terrorists themselves. The movie itself has not aged well in effects, and is extended by repetitive material. The shifting of perspectives is interesting but the movie could have benefited from a more linear progression. Also, the movie gave very little reason to be invested in characters which gave little weight to deaths and risky situations.

Don’t Breathe Review

Don’t Breathe Spoiler Review

2.5Stars-1

Upfront “Don’t Breathe” is a disturbing and unrealistic movie. The movie starts on the premise of three young adults Rocky, Alex and Money are thieves in Detroit that take advantage of Alex’s dad’s private home security job in order to easily have access to rob houses. This starting premise leaves a plot hole that makes me question “Why the police have not caught onto the break-ins being correlated to the security firm?” and “Why would people trust a security company that the customers of commonly has break-ins?”.

The plot then moves to Money, the most irresponsible of the three thieves, proposing the idea of stealing from a blind veteran that has received a large settlement because of his daughters death. It would be absurd to believe that all the money from a large settlement would be in the house of the veteran but instead of worrying about that the group worries about the repercussions of stealing that much money since it exceeds $10,000, which makes the crime grand larceny.

They proceed to try to attempt to rob the veteran because their unfortunate situations at home. The veterans house has a ton of security precautions including multiple locks on each door, bars on windows, motion detectors, and a guard dog, but on only one window there wasn’t any bars which allowed the thieves to get inside. It doesn’t make sense that a man that took so many precautions wouldn’t take that final one of barring one more window to secure his home. Once in the house the team of thieves find a locked door and attempt to break it open. This builds tension because of the noise potentially waking up the veteran. Surprise, the veteran woke up and killed Money with the gun Money brought to the robbery. Unsure of if there was multiple robbers the veteran begins searching the house for the others that were actually in the same room as him. The audience later finds out that the old man is actually very perceptive and that makes this scene very confusing. If his perception was really that good then he would have found the other robbers very quickly.

The robbers find the money upstairs but in the pursuit of curiosity as well as them being locked in the house, Rocky headed down stairs through the locked door the veteran conveniently had unlocked. They found one of the weirdest plot twists in a movie I’ve ever seen. The woman that had accidentally killed the veteran’s daughter was kidnapped and impregnated by the blind veteran.

This movie was suspenseful, weird, and unrealistic. I would recommend watching it if you have nothing better to do.

Definitely a mediocre movie!
